Smiling and Talking

Lately Ellie has been full of smiles and more active. Can't believe she is 6 weeks old. Ellie has been doing well and staying up for longer intervals, so we have tried to take her picture and video her as much as possible. Take a look.

Just can't get over that cute smile!

Ellie is 1 Month Old!

Wow, Ellie is growing fast.  She is already 1 month old as of yesterday!  She is already sleeping at least 1 stretch of 4 hours at night (unless she is up all night long, silly girl).  Ellie now has started to smile, coo, and 'talk' to Daddy and Mommy when she is awake. A couple days ago, we noticed she has laughed while sleeping and can't wait to film it, but of course she does it when we don't have a camera.  Here are some pics of Ellie at 1 month.

Eloise's Birth Story

March 8, 2012, Adam and I drove to the hospital after an hour and a half of contractions that I thought were real at 12:00 A.M.  When we got to Labor and Delivery, we were assigned a room and the nurse got me hooked up to the monitors.  After three hours of contractions that started to become irregular, we were sent home disappointed.

After my next regular appointment, which was my due date March 9, my doctor, Adam, and I decided that Tuesday, March 13, our baby would be coming ready or not with the use of Pitocin (labor induction drug) or as my doctor would say "Let's plan her birth-day party."
 Tuesday, March 13&14 (both were of the warmest days of March and I believe it was a record high) The nurse from labor and delivery called us at 6:50 A.M. to come in at 8:00 to be induced.  When we got there, we were immediately taken to our room, and they started to set up the monitors.  Next, was the IV. It hurt so bad that they had to replace it after the first attempt because it was so close to my wrist.  After a hour or two of the pitocin, my contractions had a little more frequency, but only at 2 and 1/2 cm dilated.  About 12 pm they broke my water, which made the contractions so much more intense.  So at about 3 pm I couldn't take the intensity of the pain so I called for the epidural while I felt like someone was stabbing me in my back and stomach and shaking uncontrollably.  This made my pain change to just a little pressure.  At that point I was only about 3 and 1/2 cm dilated. {a little disappointed :( }

Ryan and Aristene came and visited for a little bit while the meds were working. Towards the end of their visit around 8 P.M. the epidural started to wear off, so the doctor gave me some more medicine through the epidural. At that point I was dilated to 6 cm.  After a hour or two the contractions were so intense and only getting worse that the doctor suggested replacing the epidural with another one.  After an hour of deciding, I got the epidural replaced.  Now it was like midnight, so March 14 which would be her birthday.  Soon they checked me, and I was completely dilated and ready, however she was still not down all the way to start pushing.  After another hour or so, and the epidural starting to wear off like the first, my doctor told me I could start pulling to help her make her way down.  I started pushing around 2 A.M. and towards the end I had a fever, so I needed antibiotics and she would get them when she came out too.

Finally she came at 4:16 A.M. She weighed 8 pounds 6 ounces and 22 1/2 inches long! Going to be tall like her daddy who is 6'8".  Adam was ecstatic to finally see her and had tears in his eyes.  I was overwhelmed with joy and still in a little pain as well as I looked like I got hit by a train.  We both couldn't believe how precious she was and that she was more than worth all the pain and time it took to join our little family.

The nurses cleaned her up in the room and weighed her and gave her to me.  I tried to breastfeed for a few minutes before they took her to get her antibiotics, which Adam followed her to the nursery.

Finally our families would be so excited to know her name because we kept it a secret the whole way through.  Eloise Claire Flach and we call her Ellie for short.  She was also born on Pi day so my siblings call her Ellie Pi for her nickname. We have been blessed with an incredible gift.  Ellie, we love you so much!
